An editorial piece by a Canes fan for Canes fans. The 2020 Miami football signing class.  Boom! The Canes come up big in the 2020 Recruiting class

Was this the Miami football season we were expecting? No way. #TNM ( The new Miami) Was created out of an incredible amount of hype that didn’t materialize on the field. Sitting almost here a year ago ecstatic at prospects of getting guys like Bubba Bolden, Tate Martell and Jaelan Phillips.

It seems like the strategy of going to the transfer portal after the 2019 recruiting class was going to pay off. That story has still yet to really develop but it’s far from over. Wide receiver K.J. Osborn was a huge success this season. What concerned me the most with all this hype was the expectations were set very high.

With the Las Vegas bookmakers putting the Miami football team as a probable 7.5 win team, people were thinking the Hurricanes were going to ascend far beyond that. The truth of the matter is Miami was never ranked in 2019. The Hurricanes record really doesn’t tell the tale of this year’s team.

With the exception of a final loss to Duke, Miami was within a play or a score of every loss they had. Earlier this year I wrote that Miami never could win without a kicker and the fact that the Hurricanes loss to Georgia Tech is a mistake that hopefully should never be repeated. That problem was solved as was the punting game.

Even more bothersome than the near victories Miami failed to secure was what can only be described as the most embarrassing loss in Canes football history. This should be the first, last and only time Miami loses to an in county team like FIU.

On almost any given day Miami could’ve started their second team and walked away with a win so this is a shameful and unfortunate event we all will just have to deal with. Going into the Independence Bowl this week anything can happen. In all honesty, I’m not even overly optimistic Miami will win the game.

Several key players are going to sit out for their potential future prospects in the NFL. I don’t even blame them at all. We can only wish them all the best and thank them for coming to Miami. Miami is not playing for a National Championship and or even in a major bowl game.

Personally I’m much happier to see these guys securing more money in the NFL been risking a career-ending injury in a bowl game that does little to help the program. It’s a lose-lose situation and that Miami is expected to win so if they do no one cares But at the same time if they lose everyone says how they lost.

I’m not even looking at this year anymore. I’m looking at next year and that’s where I see hope and promise. I have endlessly tweeted 160 characters at a time that Miami needs a different breed of players. UMIAMI needs guys who want to play for Miami and no one else. Wearing The U is a badge of honor. It’s a privilege.

Next. Tyler VanDyke is MIami QB of the future. dark

You either want to be a Cane or you don’t. I think the 2020 recruiting class which is Manny’s first that he truly owns represents these types of players. Now I admit, biased as I always am, these are exciting times for the Canes Football program and next is certain to be better. We are on the right course.
