Miami native Beatrice Mompremier made her Miami basketball debut as Katie Meier led the Hurricanes women to one of their greatest seasons in school history. The Hurricanes beat Louisville and Notre Dame to record victories over two top-five teams in the same season for the first time in program history.

Mompremier was a consensus honorable mention all-American and first-team All-ACC. The Miami women’s basketball team finished fourth in the ACC during the regular season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round. Mompremier was named the 2019-20 ACC Preseason Player of the Year.

▪ Most improved

Many Miami Hurricanes athletics should have been on the list. Rousseau went from sitting out the 2018 season with an injury to All-ACC and named to several All-America teams. Miami first baseball Alex Toral had a meteoric rise from his freshman to sophomore season. Toral hit .161 with one HR and 11 RBIs in 2018.

Toral broke out in 2019 leading the ACC with 24 home runs was fifth with 67 RBIs and hit .293. His 2019 season was clearly enough to be named one of the most improved players in South Florida in 2019. Toral is a key returnee for the 2020 Miami baseball team who begins the season ranked fourth in the country.
