The remaking of the offense for the Miami football program commenced this weekend the official announcement of SMU offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee to the same position with the Hurricanes. Lashlee is expected to bring two staffers with him from Dallas.
The official announcement of Rhett Lashlee as the new offensive coordinator with the Miami football program has the majority of the Hurricanes fanbase excited about at least the future of the offense. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported on Saturday that Lashlee is expected to bring two SMU staffers with him.
The two staffers from SMU that are expected to join Lashlee in Coral Gables are former Mustangs off offensive quality control analyst Jonathan Brewer and former SMU offensive graduate Kyle Cooper assistant. A pair of Dan Enos hires in Miami are reportedly on the hot seat in Coral Gables.
Offensive line coach Butch Barry and wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield previously were assistant coaches under Enos at Central Michigan. Their past under Hurricanes’ former offensive coordinator has Stubblefield and Barry firmly on the hot seat in Coral Gables.

Tight end coach Stephen Field and running backs Eric Hickson who were hired by Diaz are expected to be retained with the Miami football program. Brewer worked with Lashee previously at Connecticut as the offensive quality control analyst/special projects for quarterbacks. Brewer also worked with WRs at Auburn in 2016.
Brewer was the interim offensive line coach at SMU in 2018 per Ivins and worked with the Tigers upfront from 2013-15 under JB Grimes per his SMU profile. Barry would seem to be the coach who should be the most concerned with Brewer having a strong background coaching offensive linemen.
The future for Stubbfield is not expected to be impacted by the addition of Cooper to the Miami football staff. Before working with Lashlee, Cooper’s coaching experience was primarily on defense. The former linebacker at Robert Morris in Pittsburgh was an offensive assistant under Lashlee at UConn and SMU.
Cooper has also been a graduate assistant coach for two years at Westminster College in Pennsylvania. WIth Cooper helping to coach the Westminster defense, they finished 15th nationally in Division III in sacks. Cooper’s switch to offense and primarily the offensive will hopefully help the ailing Miami offensive line.
