During his one season as the offensive coordinator at Connecticut Rhett Lashlee lived in Glastonbury according to new Miami Hurricanes quarterback signee Tyler Van Dyke. Glastonbury is also VanDyke’s hometown. The new UM QB is excited to work with the new OC.

After the inconsistent play at quarterback this season for the Miami Hurricanes, the signing of four-star QB Tyler VanDyke and hiring of new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has followers of the football program looking forward to the 2020 season. VanDyke and Lashlee used both live in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

VanDyke and Lashlee have worked together before according to the newest QB on the Miami Hurricanes. In an interview with Andrew Ivins of Inside the U, VanDyke discussed his history with Lashlee, building their relationship in the future and his opinion on Lashlee getting hired. The 2020 starting QB for Miami is open.

Jarren Williams flashed moments of brilliance in 2019 and looked lost at others. After two years of playing N’Kosi Perry will likely remain inconsistent after two years of sharing the QB position with Williams and Malik Rosier. Tate Martell could be an unknown the offense changing drastically with Lashlee’s hire.

VanDyke is expected to enroll in Coral Gables later this month and Miami could add a graduate transfer at QB. The possibility also exists that some combination of Williams, Perry and/or Martell could transfer. Landing a graduate transfer could give VanDyke the opportunity to play in up to four 2020 games and redshirt.

"“He (Lashlee) texted me the other day just saying that he’s looking forward to getting to work with me. I’m exited (sic). I think it’s a great hire. He just had a great season at SMU with great stats. He’s an air raid type of offensive coordinator that likes to throw the ball so that will be good.I talked to him a lot there. He actually lived in my town for that season. He’s a great guy. I still got to get to know him a little bit more, but I’m looking forward to building that relationship with him. it has been going well. I have been doing it for five weeks so far…It’s hard work, but that’s what you got to do to win.“It has been going well (a workout program provided by strength and conditioning coach David Feeley). I have been doing it for five weeks so far. It’s hard work, but that’s what you got to do to win.”"

Lashlee led a top 10 offense at SMU in 2019. Although VanDyke is ranked as the nation’s ninth-best prostyle QB in the class of 2020, any signal-caller would be excited to lead Lashlee’s offense. VanDyke’s high school coach told Inside the U last week that they used four and five wide receivers often during the 2019 season.

It should be another interesting offseason with Manny Diaz, the transfer portal and the 2020 signing class for the Miami Hurricanes. The next nine months are vital for the Miami football program and Diaz’s tenure as head coach. A lot of it will be tied to Lashlee and likely eventually to VanDyke.
