Elite former Florida International kicker Jose Borregales who helped beat the Miami football team is now expected to join them. The 2018 Groza semifinalist is projected to sign with the Hurricanes according to Andrew Ivins of Inside the U.
Jose Borreagales had one of the best games of his collegiate career when Florida International pulled the shocking 30-24 upset over the Miami football team in November. The junior kicker made field goals of 29, 50 and 53 yards and made all three of his extra points in the Panthers victory.
Now the Miami Hurricanes appear to be reversing the old adage if you can’t be ’em, join ’em. If you can’t beat them have them join you. Borreagales is projected to sign with the Miami football program as a graduate transfer according to Andrew Ivins of Inside the U. The Miami native made 37-39 PAT and 21-29 FGs in 2019.
For his career, Borreagales has connected on 131-134 PATs and 50-66 field goals for 281 career points in just three seasons with the Panthers. Camden Price settled the Miami place-kicking woes later in the season after Bubba Baxa and Turner Davidson cost Miami victories early in the season against North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
Baxa made 15 of his 17 PATs and was a miserable 5-10 on field goal attempts. Walk-on Davidson made all five of his PATs, but just one out of three field-goal attempts. Price was a solid 18-18 on PATs and made six of his seven field-goal attempts. The 85.7 percent on field-goal attempts would have placed Price 17th nationally.
If Borregales signs with Miami he would suit up in orange and green in 2020 before presumably giving way to his brother Andres who is committed to the Hurricanes as the top placekicker in the country in the Class of 2021. With new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee in place, the kicking should be more important in 2020.
