New details emerge from Miami football QB transfer portal target Tulane decommitment
New details have emerged in the de-commit of quarterback Jett Duffey from Tulane. Duffey, who the Miami football program is thought to be interested in as a graduate transfer was reportedly denied admission in the Big Easy.
Texas Tech graduate transfer quarterback Jett Duffey who was reportedly a target of the Miami football program through the portal was denied academic admission at Tulane according to Nola.Com. Duffey delivered a misleading tweet on Saturday denouncing his commitment to Tulane.
The 6’1 195 pound QB stated to his Twitter followers on Saturday that “I have decided to keep my recruitment open and continue looking for my new home.” Duffey initially visited Tulane on January 7 and committed to the Green Wave two days later. Less than 48 hours later Duffey was denied admission and looking for a new school.
Duffey began each of the last two seasons at Texas Tech as the third-string QB before becoming the starter later in the season. Duffey is a dual-threat QB who would be a good fit for New Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee’s spread system. Duffey being turned down at Tulane might project a difficult time getting into Miami as well.
In three seasons at Texas Tech, with most of his playing time in 2018 and ’19, Duffey completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,077 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Duffey added 587 yards rushing and five TDs and added one reception for 14 yards. Pro Football Focus gave Duffey a Passing Grade of 90.3 percent.
Among QBs with at least 300 dropbacks, Duffey tied for fourth in the country in 2019. Joe Burrow of LSU won the Heisman Trophy and is playing in the National Championship game on Monday, Justin Fields of Ohio State who lost to the Tigers title game opponent Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl and Dustin Crum of Kent State were 1-3.
What schools Duffey is considering other than Tulane has not been widely reported. Georgia was thought to be one but the Bulldogs are off the board after Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman enrolled earlier this week. Oklahoma which has become QB transfer U is also thought to be in the mix.
