The Miami football program has emerged as the favorite for Houston quarterback E’riq King ahead of his visit to Coral Gables this weekend.

Houston quarterback D’Eriq King who announced his entry into the transfer portal on Monday night while LSU was defeating Clemson for the National Championship in New Orleans will visit with the Miami football program this weekend. It appears that the Hurricanes have emerged as the favorites to sign King.

According to Andrew Ivins of Inside the U, King was expected to arrive in Miami Thursday night. King is expected to stay in Miami through Saturday and reportedly will visit Maryland beginning Saturday. New offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and head coach Manny Diaz are leading King’s recruitment.

Miami will face competition from college football bluebloods to sign King. Alabama and LSU are in the foray in addition to Maryland. Arkansas appears to be out of the running after being mentioned as an early favorite. Friday is the final day to register for classes in Fayetteville. That appears to have ended King signing in Fayetteville.

Alabama is a semi-late entrant into the competition to sign King. Nick Kosko of 247Sports said earlier this week that the odds to sign King per Sportline.Com were in order: “LSU (+250), followed by Arkansas (+300), Miami (+500), Oregon (+600), Florida State (+800), Michigan State (+1500) and Oklahoma (+2000).”

Those odds were released on Tuesday morning. A lot has happened since King made his declaration on Monday evening. LSU lost passing game prodigy Joe Brady to the Carolina Panthers. Brady was hired by new Panthers head coach Matt Rhule. Can LSU be as prolific offensively without Brady and QB Joe Burrow?

Per Ivins, the Arkansas situation has also changed. The Razorbacks are hosting former Florida QB Feleipe Franks this weekend. Alabama was not initially among the schools listed. As of now, it appears that Miami is the frontrunner for King. Maryland is the only other school that King has scheduled a visit with.
