Miami Hurricanes wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield could be headed to Penn State to accept the same position according to football scoop.

Taylor Stubblefield just completed his first season as the wide receivers coach with the Miami Hurricanes. Penn State has targeted Stubblefield to become the Nittany Lions next wide receivers coach according to football scoop. Stubblefield tutored a WR corps in 2019 that was inconsistent with a pair of exceptions.

K.J. Osborn and Mike Harley had productive seasons for the Miami. Osborn led Miami with 50 receptions, 547 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions in 2019. Harley had by far his best collegiate season as a junior. The St Thomas Aquinas alum leads Miami Hurricanes returnees with 38 receptions and three TDs.

Harley’s 485 receiving yards is second to tight end Brevin Jordan who had 495. Stubblefield came to Miami from Air Force where he spent the 2017 and ’18 seasons. He was a consensus All American at Purdue and holds the Boilermakers all-time record with 325 receptions.

Stubblefield is second all-time at Purdue in receiving yards and fifth in TD receptions. There has been some criticism that the Miami WRs have not developed enough. There have been some rumblings within the Miami football program that offensive players are out partying too much and not taking enough time to learn the playbook.

Football Scoop summarized Stubblefield’s career in the report that Penn State wants to bring the former Purdue star to State College.

Penn State: The whisper in the profession is James Franklin is targeting University of Miami receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield as the Nittany Lions’ new receivers coach. Stubblefield was an All-American receiver at Purdue. He would go on to have short stints in the NFL and CFL before beginning his coaching career.

This was his first season at Miami, after having coached receivers at Air Force, Toronto Argos, Utah, Wake Forest, New Mexico, Central Michigan, Illinois State, Eastern Michigan and Central Washington. Will update….

Rising sophomores Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins made big plays for Miami in 2019. The Hurricanes need more consistency from Pope and Wiggins in 2020 when they will become the most experienced receivers Miami has. Pope had 18 receptions for 266 yards and two TDs in 2019. He added three carries for 23 yards.

Wiggins caught 20 passes for 335 yards and four TDs. He added three carries for 30 yards. Wiggins led Miami WRs with more than one reception averaging 16.8 yards per reception. Wiggins has a pair of breakout performances in November.

In games against Florida State and Louisville Wiggins combined for seven receptions for 159 yards and three TDs. If Wiggins can continue to be a deep threat in the passing game he will help the Miami quarterbacks. Returning to the Big 10 would be closer to Stubblefield’s football roots.

dark. Next. Miami football could be in prime position to sign QB D'Eriq King

Stubblefield also spent time in schools coaching in the shadow of the Big 10. The Washington native has been an assistant under departed Miami offensive coordinator Dan Enos at Central Michigan and was a WR coach at FCS Illinois state earlier in his career.
