Miami Hurricanes WR Mike Harley sends out sly tweet about D’Eriq King
Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Mike Harley sent out a cryptic tweet on Saturday that could be an indication of where Houston quarterback D’Eriq King is in the transfer process.
In a tweet sent out early on Saturday afternoon, Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Mike Harley was sly about where the football program could be in the transfer process with former Houston QB D’Eriq King. Harley took a page out of Manny Diaz’s social media handbook by using Twitter to portal what could happen in the future.
In the nearly 13 months since Diaz replaced Mark Richt in late December 2018, the Miami head coach has often sent out cryptic tweets regarding impending news. Diaz has been noticeably quiet this month even with the Miami Hurricanes making news several times. The most notable was hiring new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.
Harley has learned the social media game well from his head coach. In a singular tweet without text, the rising senior wide receiver used a solitary crown emoji. The tweet was clearly a reference to the potential of Miami signing King. Anything beyond that is open to interpretation by anyone.
Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported that King was hosted at Miami by walk-on linebacker Ryan Ragone but also spent time with Harley. Ivins also reported that King canceled his visit to Maryland that was supposed to commence immediately after the former Houston signal caller visited Coral Gables.
Neither Diaz or King have posted on Twitter since Wednesday. The expectation is that King will take the next 48 hours to make his decision on where his future college destination will be. That has to bode well for Miami. Several other schools were thought to be in the mix but there have been no reports of other visits.
King would significantly upgrade the QB play for Miami. The Hurricanes offense suffered at times in 2019 because of inconsistency at QB. If King matriculates in Coral Gables expect a combination of the Miami veteran QBs to enter the transfer portal at some time this year. That could come after spring practice.
