The recruitment by the Miami football program of Houston graduate transfer QB D’Eriq King continues to evolve after he visited the Hurricanes this weekend.

Former Houston dual-threat quarterback D’Eriq King spent Thursday through Saturday in Coral Gables. The Miami football program is one of several destinations King is considering playing for in 2020 as a graduate transfer. King was scheduled to visit Maryland following his Miami visit but reportedly canceled per multiple sources.

Instead of flying to College Park, King and his mother returned to Houston according to Andrew Ivins of Inside the U. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that Oklahoma and LSU are potentially the biggest competition for the Miami football program to sign the 2018 Maxwell Award semifinalist.

Oklahoma has been mentioned by multiple sources. The Sooners have 2019 five star signee Spencer Rattler on the roster but have had exceptional success with transfer quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield won the 2017 Heisman Trophy and Kyler Murray the 2018 Heisman with Jalen Hurts the 2019 runner up all as transfers with the Sooners.

King could still take more visits, but Ivins wrote on Saturday night that no additional recruiting trips are planned. As it stands late Saturday night King is trending to sign with Miami. If King hopes to participate in spring practice with Miami in March he has to enroll by Tuesday morning. King is expected to make a decision within 48 hours.

Arkansas and LSU were considered the early favorites when King announces his decision to enter the transfer portal on Monday night during the National Championship between Clemson and LSU. A lot of movement in the LSU staff has happened since they won the title.

Passing game coordinator Joe Brady was hired as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator. Brady’s departure was followed by LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda accepting the head coaching job at Baylor to ironically replace Matt Rhule who left to take the head coaching job with Carolina and then hire Brady.
