Miami football commitment from Quincy Roche could be tied to D’Eric King
A commitment to the Miami football program from Temple graduate transfer defensive end Quincy Roche could be tied to Houston transfer quarterback D’Eriq King. If King commits to the Hurricanes Roche would likely also sign according to a report.
The Miami football program could sign two of the most elite players in the transfer portal at quarterback and defensive end. Graduate transfers, quarterback D’Eriq King of Houston and defensive end Quincy Roche of Temple could have the potential of their signing with tied to each other Miami according to a report.
Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported on Monday morning that Roche would likely commit to the Miami football program if King did so. Getting King and Roche would significantly upgrade the two most important positions in modern football. King spent this past weekend in Coral Gables and Roche was at Virginia Tech.
Multiple reports broke on Sunday morning that King would be headed to Coral Gables and enroll at classes on Monday or Tuesday. The spring deadline at the University of Miami is Tuesday. If King does not enroll in Miami by Tuesday he would not be able to matriculate at The U until May. King would also miss spring practice.
Roche had a good visit this weekend in Blacksburg according to Evan Watkins of VT Scoop, the partner site of Inside the U. One of the things working against Miami in signing Roche is his desire to stay close to home. Roche has to be intrigued by the potential of the Miami football team overall if they sign King.
Ivins reported that Roche and his parents were scheduled to speak with Miami defensive line coach Todd Stroud on Sunday night. King is still pondering what he wants to do. A report from Houston sportscaster Mark Berman stated King has not committed anywhere yet and is still considering other schools.
Arkansas, LSU and Maryland are reportedly still in the running to sign King. Everything seemed to be pointing in Miami’s direction after his visit to Coral Gables this weekend. King canceled a scheduled visit to Maryland that was supposed to follow his time in South Florida. King stated he is still planning a visit to Maryland.
Arkansas has a connection with King and new offensive coordinator Kendall Briles. Briles was King’s offensive coordinator at Houston when he had a breakout season at QB as a junior in 2018. King was primarily a wide receiver as a freshman and sophomore in 2016 and ’17. LSU has had a lot of movement on their coaching staff.
The defending national champion Tigers have to replace prodigy passing game coordinator Joe Brady and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. Brady left Baton Rouge to become the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. Aranda is on his way to Waco, Texas to replace Matt Rhule as the Baylor head coach.
Virginia Tech has an advantage with Roche that Blacksburg is three and a half hours from the elite pass rusher’s hometown of Baltimore. Roche was the 2019 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He finished the season with 49 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.
