The Miami football program flipped a former Florida State commit in the 2020 cycle for the third time with the declaration by four-star cornerback Isaiah Dunson that he intends to sign with the Hurricanes.
The Miami football program flipped their third former Florida State commit on Sunday. Four-star cornerback Isaiah Dunson announced via Twitter that he intends to sign with the Hurricanes on National Signing Day in February. Dunson will join running back Jaylen Knighton and safety Jalen Harrell as former FSU commits in Miami.
Dunson fits the profile for what Manny Diaz is looking for in a cornerback. At 6’2, 180 pounds, the length Dunson has is what Diaz and defensive coordinator Blake Baker like on the outside. Dunson will be the second-highest ranked defensive player and highest-ranked defensive back in the Category 20 class for Miami.
Dunson is the 322nd ranked player, 22nd ranked cornerback and 32nd ranked player in Georgia the Class of 2020. The lanky corner played high school football in Tucker Georgia at the high school with the eponymous name. Dunson is a big addition to the defensive backfield and more specifically cornerback for 2020.
Miami lost junior two-year starter, cornerback Trajan Bandy who will enter the 2020 NFL Draft. With Bandy moving on, the Hurricanes bring back rising juniors Al Blades Jr. and D.J. Ivey and rising sophomores Christian Williams and Te’Cory Couch for the 2020 season. Dunson joins three-star CB Marcus Clarke in the 2020 class.
Dunson was contacted by a dozen power five schools, 16 overall including a late push by Mississippi with Lane Kiffin leading the Rebels recruiting pitch. Miami had a big recruiting weekend that included Dunson, four-star cornerback Avantae Williams and prime transfer target QB D’Eriq King from Houston.
Miami CBs coach Mike Rumph was the lead recruiter on Dunson according to 247Sports. The addition of Dunson to Category 20 was significant after Rumph emphasized the need to add another CB in this recruiting cycle. Dunson’s commitment to Miami is the second year in a row Miami added a four-star CB late.
Christian Williams committed to the Miami football program in January 2019 and signed the following month after having been previously committed to Alabama. The Hurricanes signed four-star wide receiver Dazalin Worsham last month after he was a one-time Alabama commit.
