Following reports that of the impending entrance of Miami Hurricanes Jarren Williams into the transfer portal, UM tight end Brevin Jordan tweeted out support.

Quarterback Jarren Williams and tight end Brevin Jordan signed with the Miami Hurricanes in their 2018 recruiting class. Jordan has become of the best receivers Miami has in his two seasons lining up for the Hurricanes. In 2019, Williams and Jordan build a rapport early in the season as Miami nearly upset Florida.

Jordan had five receptions for 88 yards and teamed up on the first TD pass of Williams’ career to put Miami ahead 13-7 45 seconds before halftime in the 2019 season opener against Florida. Jordan shined week two with Williams throwing him the football. Jordan caught five passes for 73 yards against North Carolina.

Miami once again fell short, but Williams and Jordan seemed on their way to becoming one of the emerging pitch and catch tandems in college football. Injuries for both and a disappointing season that once seemed like the Hurricanes were going to upgrade their offense from 2018 derailed any hype Jordan and Williams generated.

On Monday Houston graduate transfer QB D’Eriq King announced he was transferring to Miami and it was inevitable that Williams and potentially Tate Martell, N’Kosi Perry or both could transfer. On Thursday afternoon Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated broke the news via twitter that Williams would enter the transfer portal.

The response to the reported decision by Williams to enter the transfer portal has come with mixed responses from the Miami fan base and to a much lesser extent the media. Some people are grateful for the work he put in during his two seasons in the Miami football program and others were frustrated with his failures.

In a tweet from Andrew Ivins of Inside the U Jordan responded with support for his teammate. Jordan wished Williams luck wherever he winds up and commented about the volatile nature of “they” (presumably the fans and media) loving you one minute and hating you the next. That’s part of the game.

Getting support from a key teammate is to be expected and shows a modest sense of unity from the Miami Hurricanes offense. With all that the majority of reports state that Williams needs to grow up. Too much partying, skipping curfew the night before Miami played FIU and walking out of practice is not acceptable.

On any football team, the QB has to set an example for the entire program. At a Power Five school and particularly one with the tradition Miami has it is critical for success. Hopefully, wherever Williams winds up he will mature and learn from the tough lessons that befell him with the Hurricanes.
