The core of any offense of Superbowl heroes who played on the Miami football team in college starts with Kelly and Anderson. In four appearances, Kelly threw for 829 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran 11 times for 51 yards. Kelly was knocked out of SB XXVII after going 4-7 for 82 yards and two INTs.

Anderson was the unexpected MVP of SB XXV against Kelly and 6.5 point favorite Buffalo Bills. Anderson ran for 784 yards and 11 TDs in the regular season. In the Superbowl, Anderson helped the Giants offense hold the ball for 40:33 to keep the Bills K-gun offense off the field. The former Miami star ran for 102 yards and a TD.

Anderson was named Superbowl XXV MVP, but it probably should have gone to the Bills’ Thurman Thomas. A Scott Norwood missed field goal on the final play with the Bills leading 20-19 gave the Giants the victory. Thomas finished with 15 carries for 135 yards and TD and five receptions for another 55 yards.

Anderson’s role in helping defeat Buffalo in Superbowl XXV was one of three games that Kelly saw another former Miami football great contribute to the Bills losing four straight Superbowl. The second running back choice between Frank Gore and Chuck Foreman was a difficult one. Gore played in one SB, Foreman three.
