A report from Miami basketball play-by-play announcer Joe Zagacki during the pre-game on the Hurricanes network is star guards Chris Lykes and Kam McGusty are expected to be out on Sunday at Pittsburgh.

The Miami basketball team will be without star guards Chris Lykes and Kam McGusty on Sunday at Pittsburgh. Lykes is missing his third straight game and McGusty is out for the second time in three games. Lykes and McGusty are out they will be replaced as starters by freshmen Harlond Beverly and Isaiah Wong.

Beverly and Wong have started the last two games. McGusty played 23 minutes in the 71-61 victory by the Miami basketball team over Virginia Tech on Tuesday. McGusty scored only three points in the victory over the Hokies. Wong has played exceptionally well in the last two games.

The two-time Philadelphia high school Player of the Year scored 29 points against North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Wong made 9-18 from the floor, 3-8 three-point attempts and all eight of his free throws. Wong has scored 27 points in his last three halves of basketball. The improvement Wong has shown is encouraging.

Beverly has assumed the point-guard duties with Lykes out. The Michigan native scored 13 points on 4-8 from the floor and had three rebounds, six assists and three steals with four turnovers in the win over the Hokies on Tuesday night. Miami is going to need another performance like that from Beverly on the road.

The Hurricanes will count on the steady hand of senior Dejan Vasiljevic against the Panthers on Sunday. Vasiljevic scored 18 points and had seven rebounds in the victory over Virginia Tech. Center Rodney Miller could be a key factor against a Pittsburgh team that does not have much size.

Miller has improved as the season has progressed. The 7’0 center had 11 points and nine rebounds on 5-6 from the floor in the Hurricanes win on Tuesday over the Hokies. Miller is averaging career highs of 7.2 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and shooting 59.4 percent from the floor.

The Hurricanes need to get more shots for Miller. Miami is expected to have forward Keith Stone on Sunday against Pittsburgh. Stone returned against Virginia Tech after missing 3.5 weeks with a knee injury. The graduate transfer from Florida missed the beginning of this season recovering from a torn ACL last season with the Gators.
