The Miami Hurricanes impending hire of former Arizona State offensive coordinator Rob Likens is the third former coordinator that Manny Diaz has hired in the 2020 offseason.

According to multiple reports, the Miami Hurricanes hire of former Arizona State offensive coordinator Rob Likens as their new wide receivers coach is imminent. Likens would replace Taylor Stubblefield who left Miami to become the wide receivers coach at Penn State. Likens spent the last three seasons with the Sun Devils.

The last two seasons Likens was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards. Likens was the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach with Arizona State in 2017. He has other power five experience with California and Florida.

The addition of Likens as the wide receivers coach continues the trend for Manny Diaz and his new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee this offseason of hiring coaches who have held positions of higher authority in FBS jobs than what they will be performing with the Miami Hurricanes. Likens has experience in the spread offense.

Lashlee and Likens both have experience working under current SMU head coach Sonny Dykes. Likens worked for two seasons under Dykes at California. In 2013, Likens was the assistant head coach and outside receivers coach. A year later he added the title of passing game coordinator.

Lashlee was the SMU offensive coordinator in 2018 and ’19. The addition of Likens makes him the third member of the Miami Hurricanes offensive coaching staff with prior experience as an offensive coordinator. Offensive line coach Garin Justice who was the offensive coordinator and line coach at UNLV in 2019 was hired in January.

Another hire the Miami Hurricanes are expected to make this week is the addition of former Florida State tight ends coach Telly Lockette as an offensive analyst. Lockette was on the Seminoles staff the last two seasons under Willie Taggart. Lockette was a very successful high school coach in Miami prior to Florida State.

Lockette was the head coach at Miami Central and the offensive coordinator at Miami Northwestern. Guard Navaughn Donaldson and linebacker Waynmon Steed at Miami Central alums. The experience Lockette has as a successful high school coach in South Florida should help Miami in recruiting.
