On National Signing Day, it is fitting to look back at the 2019 Miami football signing class and examine who was a major contributor in their freshman season.

The 2019 Miami Football signing class was a transition one for first time Head Coach Manny Diaz. The Hurricanes 2019 class was ranked 27th in the country according to the 247 rankings. Not many 2019 signees contributed in a big way. Offensive linemen Zion Nelson and Jakai Clark both became starters.

The other major contributor was Australian Punter Lou Hedley who was a great special teams player for the Miami Football team. None of the other 2019 signees made a big impact for the Hurricanes in 2019. Unlike the 2019 class, the 2020 class has a significant more amount of early enrollees going from three to 14.

The 2020 Miami football signing class is 13th overall and much better than Diaz’s first recruiting class. This class is full of competitors and guys that are hungry to contribute early and often. There are a number of players in the 2020 class that will contribute, but there are two that will stand above the rest.

On the offensive side of the ball early enrollee, four-star WR Keyshawn Smith, out of San Diego should make an impact. Smith was a late addition to the class after originally signing a National Letter of Intent with Washington State. After signing that NLI,  Cougars Head Coach Mike Leach left for Mississippi State.

Due to the coaching change, Smith requested and was released from his NLI and quickly inked with the Canes and enrolled in classes. Smith was a bit of a late riser in the rankings after having a monster senior season in which he totaled 46 catches for 808 yards and eight TDs.
