The Miami football Category 20 recruiting class received an enormous boost on National Signing Day when the number two safety in the class of 2020, Avontae Williams announced he would sign a National Letter of Intent with the Hurricanes.

The addition of the second-best safety in the Class of 2020, four-star Avontae Williams from Deland, Florida has vaulted the Miami Football Category ’20 Class from 18th overall where they temporarily sat on Wednesday morning to 12th nationally. Williams choosing Miami over Florida shocked recruiting experts.

Williams was viewed as a near-lock to sign with the Gators. All 12 of the crystal ball projections on 247Sports had forecasted Williams to Gainesville. Williams is the highest-ranked player in the 2020 signing class for Miami. Miami will have four true freshmen safeties on the roster this fall. Some of the safeties could move to striker.

Williams is the highest-ranked player in the two recruiting classes since Diaz succeeded Mark Richt as the Hurricanes head in December 2018. Diaz took over after most of the recruits signed early in December 2018. Williams is the second-ranked safety, 44th ranked player overall and seventh-ranked player in Florida for 2020.

Williams joins four-star safety Jalen Harrell who signed with Miami in December after de-committing from Florida State and three-stars Keshawn Washington and Brian Balom. The Hurricanes signed four-star cornerback Isaiah Dunson earlier on Wednesday and added three-star CB Marcus Clarke in December.

A once thin secondary for the Miami football program has a bright future. The Hurricanes  will potentially have rising juniors Gurvan Hall and Bubba Bolden for the next two seasons. Miami will also return rising senior Amari Carter and rising sophomore Keontra Smith for the 2020 season.

Williams announced his decision to sign with the Miami football program during a National Signing Day ceremony at Deland High school. He put on a Miami cap and followed that up by flashing the U. The addition of Williams ends what has been a hectic and highly successful five-week run to begin 2020 for the Hurricanes.
