After getting off to a slow start against Boston College, the Miami basketball team exploded in a decisive 85-58 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday night at the Watsco Center.

The Miami basketball team earned their first win in over two weeks and just their second in the last month with an impressive 85-58 victory over Boston College at the Watsco Center on Wednesday night. The victory ended a three-game losing streak and was just the third win in the Hurricanes last 12 games.

Miami behind 12-7 before going on a 31-5 run to blow the game open in the first half. Boston College scored the final six points on the first half to cut the deficit to 38-22 at halftime. The Hurricanes never led by less than 13 points in the second half. The Hurricanes used exceptional balance led by freshman Isaiah Wong with 21 points.

Four Miami basketball players finished in double figures and seven players scored at least seven. Wong has been the story lately. Wong became the first Miami freshman with consecutive 20 point games since Marcus Barnes in 1999-2000. The freshman scored a career-high 23 points in the Hurricanes loss Saturday to Florida State.

The victory over Boston College was the sixth straight game Wong reached double figures. Wong is averaging 16.7 points per game in his last half dozen games. Chris Lykes entered Wednesday’s against Boston College leading Miami with an average of 15.3 PPG. Lykes finished with 16 against the Eagles.

Redshirt junior Kam McGusty scored 12 and redshirt junior center Rodney Miller who missed Saturday’s game against Florida State contributed 11 points and seven rebounds against Boston College. Freshmen Harlond Beverly and Anthony Walker scored nine and senior guard Dejan Vasilljevic finished with seven.

The Hurricanes were outstanding in all aspects of the game. Miami outshot Boston College 57.7 to 37.1 percent from the floor, made 8-20 three-point attempts to 4-19 for the Eagles and were 17-21 from the free-throw line to 8-14 for BC. After a tough stretch through the loss to Florida State Saturday, it gets easier for Miami.

The Hurricanes host Wake Forest on Saturday before a three-game road trip at Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. Miami finishes the season in March with home games against Virginia and Syracuse.
