Miami staff changes should transform the offense.

Firing Enos, replacing Barry, and hiring a new wide receivers coach for the departed Taylor Stubblefield to Penn State was on the docket for the first two months what will hopefully be a roaring ’20s for the Miami football program became necessary.

Relieving Enos of his duties was more than just the lack of performance on the field for the Miami football team. Reports of clashes off the field with offensive players, particularly at QB meant replacing Enos was critical to the Hurricanes culture.

A less divisive and more innovative Rhett Lashlee was hired from SMU to replace Enos as the new offensive coordinator for the Miami football program. Lashlee brings a high tempo, spread offense to Miami for the first time.

Utilizing the spread has been advocated for years by the Miami fanbase, former players and media. The level of skill players at the high school level in South Florida is vast. The implementation of the spread in Coral Gables will utilize the speed on the Miami roster and make the Hurricanes more diverse offensively.

Joining the Miami football staff to replace Barry is former UNLV offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Garin Justice. Justice was a tackle at West Virginia under Rich Rodriguez from 2002-05. Rodriguez is one of the originators of the spread offense.

Justice has been a Division II head coach and understands the entirety of how a team and each unit works offensively. The third new coach in the Miami football program is former Arizona State offensive coordinator and QB coach Rob Likens.

Likens comes to Miami after leading an Arizona State offense that had five different receivers record 100-yard games in 2019. Former Sun Devils star WR N’Keal Harry parlayed an exceptional 2017 season playing for Likens until being a first-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2019 NFL draft.
