In a moving post to his Twitter account on Saturday night, new Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King honored his father who passed away earlier in the day.

Eric King the father of Miami Hurricanes graduate transfer quarterback D’Eriq King has passed away per an emotional Twitter tribute via the new Miami signal-caller. The elder King was a high school football head coach at Westbury Christian in Houston. Losing his father is a tough situation for King at 22-years old.

The decision for King to transfer from Houston to Miami for his final season of college football was inspired by his father as he stated in the Twitter post. Multiple tributes poured in for Eric King as retweeted by D’Eriq. Among those were from Texas Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington and former SMU running back Xavier Jones.

Jones was coached the last two seasons with the Mustangs by new Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. The prevailing thoughts in the tributes that King retweeted were how inspiring and thoughtful coach King was. The loss of his father will make for an emotional season for D’Eriq King in Coral Gables.

Eric King was a loving father and husband who inspired his son with the love he had for his wife and the way he pushed D’Eriq to be a better player and person. The tribute posted by D’Eriq was mature and poised for someone who just lost his father who he was very close to. His maturity will be important for Miami in 2020.

The 2020 Miami football season is more than six months away. King needs the support of his family, teammates and the Hurricanes community. How good of a leader or player he will be this fall does not matter right now. What King has shown is the character he has in a very tough time in his young life.
