Defensive end Trevon Hill was a solid rotation player as a graduate transfer from Virginia Tech to the Miami Hurricanes. After being dismissed in Blacksburg, Hill needs to have a solid interview at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis later this month.

Trevon Hill gave the Miami Hurricanes a good third edge pass rusher in their rotation in 2019. Hill finished with 27 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks playing behind starting defensive ends Jonathan Garvin and Greg Rousseau. Garvin will join Hill in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine and Rousseau is one of FBS’ best pass rushers.

Hill transferred to Miami in January 2019 as part of a class of nine players through the portal. The 6’3, 238 pound Hill didn’t reach the elite level that was expected when he signed with Miami. Hill did help the Miami Hurricanes continue to have one of the best defensive end units in the FBS in 2019.

Miami finished tied for sixth with 108 tackles for loss and seventh with 46 sacks in 2019. Hill played in all 12 regular-season games with the Hurricanes before choosing to sit out the 14-0 loss in the Independence Bowl Miami suffered to Louisiana Tech. With one more game Hill needed a half TFL and half-sack to reach 10 and five.

An article by Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports stated that Hill needs to have an exceptional interview at the NFL Combine to ease concerns by NFL teams who question his dismissal from Virginia Tech. Hill was removed from the Virginia Tech football team in 2019 after an alleged confrontation with a Hokies assistant coach.

"“Who needs to nail the interviews-Miami (Fla.) EDGE Trevon HillHill spent last season with the Hurricanes after being dismissed from Virginia Tech in September of 2018. But his past indiscretions at Tech are still matters of concern that multiple NFL teams told Yahoo Sports they intend to vet during the combine interviews.Hill had a heated exchange with a member of the Hokies’ staff during an upset loss to Old Dominion two years ago. That was the final straw, as Hill had broken team rules on multiple occasions. It’s not believed that there were any criminal charges connected with Hill, but Justin Fuente’s staff decided they were done with the talented pass rusher. To his credit, Hill is believed to have kept his nose clean in his final year at Miami and turned in a solid season. He also had a sack in the Senior Bowl. But NFL teams still are asking themselves if they can trust him.”"

Hill was consistent for Miami with tackles for loss in eight of the 12 games he played in a Hurricanes uniform and sacks in five different games. Hill peaked in the final game of the regular season with four tackles, one TFL and a half-sack in the loss at Duke. Miami has consistently sent defensive linemen to the Combine.

Four defensive linemen that have played for Manny Diaz since he was hired as the Hurricanes defensive coordinator for the 2016 season been drafted from Miami. Defensive end Chad Thomas was selected in the third round and tackles Kendrick Norton and R.J. McIntosh were selected in the fifth and seventh-rounds in 2018.

Defensive end Joe Jackson was a fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. Only Thomas has had any impact in the NFL. Major Nine recorded 26 tackles, six TFLs and four sacks in 16 games with eight starts in 2019. Hill could play DE or move to outside linebacker in a 3-4 in the NFL.
