The number one Miami baseball team will host number two Florida in a historic series this weekend. The Hurricanes and Gators have not played with both ranked in the top three in the country since 1992.

The Miami baseball team enters the weekend 4-0 with a three-game sweep of Rutgers and a 12-0 victory over Kent State on Wednesday night. Florida enters the three-game series 5-0 with a three-game sweep of Marshall to open the season and a two-game, mid-week, home-and-home sweep of Jacksonville.

The series will match the Hurricanes’ outstanding pitching against the Gators scoring machine. Florida is eighth in the country with 51 runs in five games. Miami is 23rd in the nation with a 1.75 earned run average. The three Hurricanes starters who pitched against Rutgers last weekend have a 1.50 ERA.

Miami brings its own potent offense against Florida. Sophomore catcher Adrian Del Castillo won the ACC player of the week by hitting .556 with two home runs and six RBIs last weekend. The Hurricanes enter the weekend 14th in Division I Baseball with six home runs. Playing at home the Hurricanes bats will be alive.

Miami hopes to avenge their series loss in Gainesville last season. The Hurricanes took game one on Friday night and lost game two after relinquishing a three-run lead on Saturday night. The Gators took the season finale on Sunday. Florida has owned the series with Miami in the last ten seasons.
