Miami football fans are excited about the hire offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and the addition of graduate transfer quarterback D’Eriq King from Houston. Those additions have helped the Hurricanes increase their season ticket sales by 10 percent.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Monday that the Miami Football program is at a pace of season ticket renewal about 10 percent higher than they were at the same time in 2019. The additions of new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and quarterback D’Eriq King are a big part of that.

Jackson also offered that the Hurricanes are about five percent higher in new season ticket sales than they were at this point in 2019. Miami averaged 52,828 fans per home game in 2019. That number should increase in 2020 with Florida State playing at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami was 22nd in home attendance nationally in 2018.

The 2018 season was the last year the national attendance figures were kept. Miami averaged 61,469 at Hard Rock Stadium in 2018. The Hurricanes were coming off a 10-3 season and were defending their ACC Coastal Division title from 2017 in 2018. The Hurricanes advanced to their first ACC Championship game in 2017.

Miami also played in the Orange Bowl game at Hard Rock Stadium in 2017. That appearance does not count for attendance figures but did count as a home loss for the Miami football program. The rise in season ticket renewals and new season ticket orders came after Miami hired Lashlee and signed King.

The nearly 10,000 fans per game dropoff from 2018 is significant and concerning. Part of that is that Miami will always sell out against Florida State. A much bigger concern is the product the Miami football program is putting on the field. Hurricanes fans want Manny Diaz to prove his team is capable of their disposable income.

Jackson mentioned that merchandise sales for the Miami football program among area retailers that sell Hurricanes clothing remained flat. When Miami is among the best teams in the country, Hurricanes merchandise is in high command. If Miami is exciting and productive on the field they will be rewarded off of it.
