The Miami football program is expected to receive a visit from highly sought after offensive tackle Michael McLaughlin next week. A commitment from McLaughlin might not be far behind.

Offensive tackle Michael McLaughlin who is being recruited by several Power Five programs is expected to visit the Miami football program next week per a report by Andrew Ivins of Inside the U. According to Ivins, McLaughlin is the nation’s number 22 offensive tackle in the recently upgraded 247 Sports rankings for 2021.

McLaughlin lists himself as 6’8 255 pounds on his Twitter profile. Multiple other Power Five programs are recruiting McLaughlin. That includes Florida State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest in the ACC. The only crystal ball for McLaughlin currently has him signing with the Miami football program.

That crystal ball comes from 247 Sports National Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong. Miami currently has nine commits for 2021. The only offensive lineman committed to the Hurricanes is four-star guard Lawrence Seymore. Seymore is the 14th ranked guard in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Miami desperately needs linemen after a disastrous 2019 season from their big uglies. The Hurricanes were near the bottom in most stats and metrics grading the offensive line individually and as a unit. Miami will lose four-year starting offensive guard Navaughn Donaldson after the 2020 season.

McLaughlin is expected to visit the Miami football program on Monday for the first day of spring practice. The Hurricanes have expounded on the importance of relationships in recruiting. Miami has been building one with McLaughlin. McLaughlin attended a Hurricanes game last fall and was recently in Coral Gables for junior day.

Other schools that McLaughlin is believed to be considering strongly are Louisville, Indiana and West Virginia. McLaughlin is an athletic offensive tackle. He has played tight end during for MSD and lists himself as an offensive tackle and defensive end. McLaughlin spoke to Ivins about his relationship with Miami.

"“I’m looking forward to getting down and seeing more of how [new offensive line coach Garin Justice] coaches…I’m excited to build that relationship.”"

Justice was hired last month to replace Butch Barry. The thinking seems to be that McLaughlin would like to make a decision on where he will play in college before he starts his senior season this fall. If all goes well next week Miami could hear from McLaughlin about his college choice sooner than expected.
