Miami basketball plays last road game of 2019-20 regular season

The Miami basketball team will play its last road game of the regular season at Georgia Tech on Saturday night at Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes are coming off of an 87-71 defeat at Notre Dame on Sunday.

The Miami basketball team travels to Atlanta on Saturday night when the Hurricanes play at Georgia Tech in the final road game of the 2019-20 regular season. Miami lost their last game 87-71 at Notre Dame on Sunday to drop to 14-13 on the season and 6-11 in the ACC. The Hurricanes return home for their final two games of 2019-20.

The 2019-20 season has been the third year in a row of what if’s for the Miami basketball team. The Hurricanes finished third in the ACC in 2018, but lost their first game in the ACC Tournament and were upset by eventual Final Four participant Loyola (Ill) in the NCAA Tournament first round.

Miami had to play the last half of the ACC season in 2018 without star sophomore guard Bruce Brown. In the last two seasons, the Miami basketball team has had been hindered by injuries and suspensions. The Hurricanes had a three-game winning streak snapped with the loss on Sunday to the Fighting Irish.

Georgia Tech is in its fourth season under Josh Pastner. The Yellow Jackets have yet to receive an NCAA Tournament bid under the former Memphis head coach. Miami will need to win the ACC Tournament to avoid missing the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

The Hurricanes would play Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament the way the standings are currently. North Carolina is incredibly in last. The Hurricanes are tied with Virginia Tech for 12th place, but own the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series. Before the loss to Notre Dame, the Miami offense had played well in three straight wins.

Freshman Isaiah Wong has been sensational for Miami over the past nine games. Wong is averaging 16.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds and has shot 55.4 percent from the floor, 46.2 percent from on three-point attempts and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line. Wong did score in double figures in the first 18 games this season.

After they complete the road portion of their 2019-20 regular-season schedule, the Miami basketball team returns home to host Virginia March 4 and Syracuse March 7. The ACC Tournament will commence March 10 in Greensboro, NC. Miami has to win its last three games to receive a first-round bye.
