The 2021 recruiting class for the Miami football program received a huge boost during the first day of spring practice when four-star offensive tackle Michael McLaughlin announced his commitment to the Hurricanes.
Four-star offensive tackle Michael McLaughlin gave the 2021 recruiting class for the Miami football program a huge addition on Monday when he announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. McLaughlin is the first offensive tackle and second offensive lineman committed to Miami for 2021.
McLaughlin is 6’7 255 pounds and an exceptional athlete at tackle. A former tight end, McLaughlin fits the type of offensive lineman that the Hurricanes have recruited in the last two recruiting cycles. McLaughlin will get in the strength and conditioning program with the Hurricanes to bulk up as Zion Nelson did in 2019.
McLaughlin is the 299th ranked player, the 27th ranked offensive tackle and 45th best player in Florida. A resident of Pompano Beach, McLaughlin preps at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The Hurricanes remain young on the offensive line entering the 2020 season and will remain so in 2021.
Offensive guard Navaughn Donaldson is the only senior on the Miami offensive line entering the 2020 season. Delone Scaife who is entering his junior season in 2020 will be eligible for the NFL Draft as will starting center Corey Gaynor and a multitude of backups. McLaughlin told Inside the U he is impressed with the Miami culture.
"“I decided to commit to Miami because I love the culture that they’re building. Miami has been there for me through the entire recruiting process, and it is a place that I can really see myself being for the next few years. With that being said, I feel great about this decision and can’t wait to become a Miami Hurricane.”"
McLaughlin commits to the Miami football program as the second player from Stoneman Douglas to join the Hurricanes. Gaynor also played his high school football for Stoneman Douglas. McLaughlin joins four-star guard Laurence Seymore as offensive lineman committed to Miami in 2021.
The commitment from McLaughlin solidifies the Hurricanes spot as the fifth-best recruiting class in the 2021 cycle. McLaughlin is continuing the trend of the Hurricanes reestablishing a stronghold on recruiting in South Florida. All 10 commits to the 2021 Miami recruiting class are from the “State of Miami.”
