Miami Hurricanes tight end Michael Irvin II, the son of the Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receivers could be considering entering his name into the transfer portal.

Miami Hurricanes redshirt senior tight end Michael Irvin II could be considered a transfer according to a report from Inside the U. Irvin II was not spotted during the first day of practice on the Greentree Fields. During his three seasons playing on the Miami football team, Irvin II has 11 receptions for 111 yards without a touchdown.

Irvin was part of the first signing class under former head coach Mark Richt. A three-star recruit, Irvin was the 627th ranked player, 33rd ranked tight end and the 90th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2016. Playing in the shadow of his father, Pro Football Hall of Famer WR Michael Irvin, has been a difficult task.

Irvin is currently third on the Miami depth chart behind juniors Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory. Miami signed tight end Dominick Mammarelli in the Class of 2020. Mammarelli could push for playing time in 2020. Jordan is a projected first-round draft pick in 2020. Mallory was a four-star signee with Miami in 2018.

With Irvin absent and Jordan still recovering from a foot injury that ended his 2019 season after nine games, Mallory, Mammarelli and redshirt freshman Larry Hodges were the tight ends receiving snaps on Monday. Mallory was the first-team TE followed Hodges and Mammarelli.

A lot is being expected from Jordan and Mallory in the new Miami Hurricanes offense in 2020. Jordan was first-team All-ACC with 35 receptions for 495 yards and two TDs in 2019. The Las Vegas native should challenge to be an All-American in 2020. Mallory thrived with Jordan out and had 16 receptions for 293 yards and two TDs.

dark. Next. New Miami uptempo, spread offense infuses new energy

The expectation is that Irvin II will be out for Spring Football while he considers his options for 2020. Irvin greatly helps the Miami Hurricanes depth at TE. If Irvin does decide to transfer, Miami has enough remaining talent at TE to continue to thrive at the position in 2020.
