It’s that time of year again for the Miami football program. The off-season recruits have been signed, those in the portal have transferred in and out and spring practice is underway.

There’s no way to sugarcoat the 2019 Miami football season. Miami suffered too many humiliating losses and lost too many games they never should have. There’s no point in trying to make it sound better than it was. It wasn’t just a terrible season but probably the worst in recent memory.

Fortunately with the new year comes a new season. Miami has added new and experienced quarterback D’Eriq King from Houston, in addition to a great crop of recruits ranked 13th in the Class of 2020. A few of the transfers and true freshmen should make an impact during the 2020 season.

Junior Jaelan Phillips took off the 2019 season to help from injuries. Phillips posted some pictures of just how much muscle he put on in a year and impressive is an understatement.

After taking a sabbatical from social media, no sooner than a couple of posts go up the doubters, pessimists and part of the Hurricanes fanbase feel the Miami football team is basically garbage. They can go winless and they are still my team. There is really little point to disagree with them.

After all the hype last season this is a team that needs to prove itself and prove itself in a meaningful way. The 2019 preseason was perhaps a little too optimistic. In retrospect too optimistic but something feels different this year. There is really little point to disagree with angry fans.

The idea of a spread offense and new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee are very exciting. While all the Miami QBs deserve love and respect, even Jarren Williams who transferred out, bringing in an experienced graduate transfer at QB is going to be very meaningful.

The defense has always been able to get its job done but it’s very difficult to win games when you can’t move the ball. For 2020, that’s going to change. The Miami Hurricanes offense is going to be far better than it’s been for the last few years and the defense should be very intimidating.

The Miami pass rush has the potential to be one of the best in the country. The Hurricanes have to have the ability to able to put up some points offensively. The pessimists, the downers and doubters on social media aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Bookmark a few of those tweets.

When we head into December we can remember just how far this team has come. There should be a lot of optimism going into this season as there has been in a very long time. You have to wonder why people are doubting this squad. It is very likely the Miami Hurricanes show very meaningful improvement in 2020.
