2001 Reschedule after September 11 terrorist attacks

The 2001 Miami football team is considered the best in the history of college football. The third week of the 2001 college football was delayed due to the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, the United Airlines Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon. Miami was scheduled to host Washington.

The Hurricanes and Huskies were rescheduled from September 15 to November 24. Miami also had a bye week September 22. With back to back off weeks, the Hurricanes did not play again until they won 43-21 at Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 27 after 19 days off. The stoppage did not hinder the Miami football team.
