The win by Miami was their third over Florida State in 11 months. The Hurricanes defeated the Seminoles 16-10 in the Orange Bowl and earned a victory over Florida State during the 2003 regular season. That was the last time a Miami football game was affected by a Hurricane until 2017.

Miami at Arkansas State, Hurricane Irma

The 2017 cancellation of the Miami football team’s scheduled trip to Arkansas State caused a lot of consternation from a RedWolves community more concerned with how the loss of revenue from hosting a power five team would affect them than the potential disaster Hurricane Irma could cause in South Florida.

The decision by Miami to not play the game caused a lawsuit by Arkansas State against Miami. There was no makeup game in 2017. Miami tried to reschedule the game but the two sides could never reach an agreement. The Hurricanes also rescheduled games against Florida State and Georgia Tech due to Irma.

Miami won the games against the Yellow Jackets and Seminoles. Despite a three-week layoff similar to 2001, the Hurricanes began the 2017 season 10-0. An upset loss to end the regular season at Pittsburgh and losses in the ACC Championship Game to Clemson and Orange Bowl to Wisconsin completed the season at 10-3.
