"“In the practice I watched, he was ridiculous…He’s as fast as anybody. Very dynamic.” And very effective at zone runs, that person said. He’s expected to have a major role in the offense as a freshman.”"

Van Dyke is likely to be the QB of the future for the Miami football program. The Connecticut native will almost definitely redshirt in 2020 and battle to be the starting QB in 2021. Redshirt Junior N’Kosi Perry is expected to be the backup to D’Eriq King an be the starting QB in his final season in 2021.

Could Perry be challenged by Van Dyke next spring to be the starter? One source told Jackson that if King had not matriculated at Miami via the transfer portal from Houston VanDyke would in their opinion had been the starter in 2020 as a true freshman. Miami has not had a true freshman QB start since Brad Kaaya in 2014.

"“If King hadn’t come here, I think Van Dyke would start this year,..His passes are crisp, accurate.”"

According to Jackson the same source liked the demeanor that Va Dyke carries himself with. Perry was reported to have had an average start to the spring and Tate Martell was struggling with accuracy and turnovers.

Restrepo arrives at Miami just as Lashlee is installing the up-tempo, spread offense that many believe will fit the skill sets of the Hurricanes players better than the antiquated pro-style offense that was utilized under Dan Enos and prior to him, Mark Richt. Restrepo is reportedly further along than Braxton Berrios was.

"“He’s gained weight…I know there are Braxton Berrios comparisons, but he makes Berrios look like a fifth-grader [physically] and his hands are better than Berrios’."
