Berrios led Miami in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns during the 2017 season when Miami won the ACC Coastal Division and played in their first ACC Championship game. Payton was often considered the best WR while he redshirting in 2020 and is being projected to battle to earn a starting spot at WR in 2020.
Holley received attention last season for his dancing on the sideline while he redshirted. Jackson was told by a source that Holley “has a serious motor” and will almost definitely be a part of the rotation at DT behind projected starters, senior Jon Ford and junior Nesta Silvera. Jared Harrison-Hunte also figures in the rotation.
After a dismal 2019 season, the Miami offensive line will evolve probably right up until the week of practice for the Hurricanes season opener against Temple in September. Rivers was in the mix at guard this spring and could earn a starting spot by the time the Hurricanes and Owls battle at Hard Rock Stadium
In a separate column as spring practice began on March 2, Jackson quoted Miami head coach Manny Diaz discussing the work that Rivers has put in during the offseason since he arrived in January.
"“We’ve known Jalen since ninth grade [in Oakleaf]; he was so big and athletic for his size. They did a great job coaching him up [in high school]. The most exciting thing…especially a big guy like Jalen, is…have him go up against older guys, and seeing him compete and seeing if he has some dog in him as a young guy. Watching him compete early on has been very encouraging.”"
Rivers is the highest-rated offensive lineman Miami has signed since Navaughn Donaldson in 2017. Donaldson earned freshman All-American honors that season and has been a three-year starter mostly at right guard. Rivers has the ability to make the same type of immediate impact in 2020.
