The uneven 2019 Miami football season had several positions that needed upgrades improved play. At least five of those positions should see upgrades in 2020.

The addition of the top quarterback, kicker and pass rusher through the transfer portal and the maturation of the offensive line and secondaries should see great improvement for the Miami football program in 2020. Improvement will be up to the players after the cancelation of spring practice because of the Coronavirus.

Bringing in a playmaker at Quarterback

The biggest difference in the Miami football team in 2020 will be at quarterback. The addition of graduate transfer D’Eriq King provides the Hurricanes with a huge upgrade at the most important position in football over the 2019 season.

The addition of King to the Miami football roster caused 2019 primary starter Jarren Williams to enter his name into the transfer portal. Williams has yet to bake his next collegiate destination. N’Kosi Perry who shared time with Williams in 2019 and Malik Rosier in 2018 should be the primary backup in 2020.

King was an elite QB in his last full season at Houston in 2018. Houston finished the 2018 season 9-4 and King accounted for 52 Tds. King decided to take a redshirt season in 2019 after Houston started 1-3 in their first season under first-year head coach Dana Holgerson. King threw for 2,982 yards, 36 TDs and six interceptions.

King ran for 674 yards and another 14 TDs in 2018. He broke Heisman Trophy winning QB Tim Tebow’s record for consecutive games with a passing and rushing TDs. Entering the 2020 season King has passed and run for a TD in 17 consecutive games. The versatility King has makes it difficult to defend him.
