A year after being the eighth seed in the south the Miami football team fell to a 10th seed in annual ESPN virtual 64-team college football playoff. Simulating all 63 games, the Hurricanes made a cinderella run.
The Miami football team was one of 11 ACC teams “invited” to the 64-team virtual college football playoff. As the 10th seed in the South region, Miami was the sixth-highest of the ACC teams to“qualify.” As expected Clemson is the top seed in the East region. Miami is the 10th seed in South against seven seed Indiana.
The five ACC teams seeded ahead of Miami in the 64-team virtual playoff bracket released by ESPN in addition to Clemson are number five seed North Carolina in the South, sixth-seeded Florida State in the Midwest, seventh seed Virginia Tech in the West and ninth seed Louisville in the Midwest.
Five ACC teams and one Miami 2020 non-conference opponent made the field and are seeded below the Hurricanes. Pittsburgh is seeded 11th in the South, Virginia 12th, Georgia Tech 14th, North Carolina State 15th and Duke 16th all in the Midwest. Michigan State who Miami plays in September is 15th in the West.
Miami seems seeded too low below ACC teams ahead of them with the exception of obviously Clemson and maybe North Carolina. Virginia Tech had a lot of attrition through the transfer portal, Florida State has a new head coach and Louisville has to play at Clemson. In the end, Miami football fans will happy with the results.
"(10) Miami 30, (7) Indiana 21: It’s not exactly a revelation, but coach Manny Diaz needs a big season in 2020 at The U. He gets a big win in the first round behind a big game from Houston grad transfer quarterback D’Eriq King. This quarterback/transfer thing in the postseason is starting to have a familiar ring to it."
It was an experienced Indiana team Miami upset. The Hoosiers had their first winning record since 2007 last season but are still searching for their first postseason victory since 1991. The Hurricanes denied IU. Indiana returns 78 percent of its overall production from 2020. That is 11th in FBS.
