The 2021 Miami football recruiting class has yet to receive a commitment from a QB. Texas four-star QB commit Jalen Milroe is a potential flip for the Hurricanes.
Signing a QB class of 2021 will be a priority for the Miami football program. The Hurricanes have the potential to flip current Texas commit, four-star QB Jalen Milroe based on a few factors. Miami will lose likely star QB, D’Eriq King, after the 2020 season who is reportedly friends with Milroe.
Texas is potentially looking to sign a second QB in its 2021 Class. Would Milroe want to compete with someone in his class in Austin? Miami signed N’Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon in the Class of 2017. Weldon eventually transferred to East Tennessee State during the 2019 offseason.
Milroe is the 80th ranked player in the Class of 2021, the fifth-ranked dual-threat QB and the 11th ranked player in the state of Texas. Texas is reportedly recruiting four-star QB Garett Nussmeier hard. Nussmeier is the 104th ranked player in 2021, the seventh-ranked pro-style QB and 11th ranked player in Texas.
Doug Nussmeier, the father of Garrett played five seasons in the NFL and is entering his first season as the QB coach for the Dallas Cowboys after spending the last two seasons as their tight ends coach. Milroe is reported to be a hard commit to Texas, but both the Longhorns and the Miami football program have new offensive coordinators.
Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported earlier this week that Miami has offered Milroe a scholarship. Milroe is a resident of the Houston suburb of Katy. With King transferring from Houston to Miami and also having grown up there, he can help the Hurricanes recruit Milroe.
Milroe has a skill set that compares favorably to King. Playing for Tompkins High School, Milroe threw for 2,689 yards, 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Milroe ran for an additional 375 yards and eight TDs. MIlroe could be waiting to see how the seasons turn out on offense for both Miami and Texas.
