Several Miami football records that could be broken in 2020
The offense is not the only unit that has program records in their sights. The single-season team and individual sack records are attainable for the Miami football team. The 1989 National Championship Miami Hurricanes set the program standard with 52 sacks. Miami had 46 sacks as a team in 2019.
With redshirt sophomore, Greg Rousseau returning and the additions of redshirt junior Jaelan Phillips and Temple transfer Quincy Roche, the Hurricanes can obliterate those records. No returning tandem in the country can approach the number of sacks Rousseau and Roche had in 2019.
Rousseau finished second in the country in 2019 with 15.5 sacks to Heisman Trophy Finalist Chase Young of Ohio State. The lanky 6’6 defensive end reached 19.5 tackles for loss and the 15.5 sacks in only seven starts. It is mind-boggling to think of the numbers Rousseau can reach in 2020 as a full-time starter.
The single-season record for sacks in Miami football history is by Daniel Stubbs with 17 in 1986. That number is very attainable by Rousseau. Roche and Phillips bring their own impressive credentials to Miami in 2020. Roche had 19 tackles and 13 sacks in 2019 for Temple and Phillips was the top recruit in the nation in 2017.
