Stephen Field, the tight ends coach for the Miami football team has placed himself among the best recruiters in the country for the 2021 cycle. According to 247Sports, Field is the sixth-best recruiter for the current class.
Tight ends coach Stephen Field is in elite company among the top-ranked recruiters in the country for 2021. In his second season on the Miami football staff, Field ranks sixth nationally among recruiters and second in the ACC. Only North Carolina co-defensive coordinator Jay Bateman is ahead of Field in the conference.
Five of the 10 commits in the 2021 Miami recruiting class are attributed to Field by 247Sports.Com. Four-star guard Laurence Seymore and three-star linebackers Chamon Metayer and Ja’Cory Hammett, tight end Khalil Brantley and cornerback Tim Burns are a credit to the hard work Field has done recruiting.
Prior to being hired to join the Miami football staff in 2019, Field was the Director of High School Relations and NFL Liaison at Louisville according to his HurricaneSports bio. Field helped the Cardinals sign 19 players in 2017 during the early signing period. In 2018, Louisville signed a school-record 11 four-star recruits.
Field has a good grasp for South Florida recruiting. He has been the head coach and offensive coordinator at Miami Northwestern, a defensive assistant at Miami in 2007-08 under Randy Shannon, the run game coordinator at Glades Central leading them a Class 3A state championship and time at Miami Central and Deerfield Beach.
Field is proving he is an invaluable recruiter for Miami. He also has an outstanding group of tight ends to coach led by juniors Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory. The late addition of speedy three-star WR Keyshawn Smith to the 2020 signing class also is credited to Field. Miami Director of Recruiting David Cooney spoke to The Athletic.
"“That was all (tight ends coach Stephen) Field…Once we identified him and watched his film, Coach Diaz gave the green light, (offensive coordinator Rhett) Lashlee gave the green light and Field took the ball and ran with it.On top of that, (tight ends coach Stephen) Field is amazing when it comes to recruiting and building relationships with those kids. He goes all out for them and makes them know they have a coach that genuinely wants to see them succeed and grow and produce."
Miami co-defensive coordinator Ephraim Banda finished 15th among recruiters in the 2020 cycle. Diaz did an excellent job hiring Cooney and revamping the Miami recruiting department. Cooney told Manny Navarro of The Athletic that Field and Banda deserve credit for four-star safety Avantae Williams signing with Miami.
Florida was the near-unanimous projection to sign Williams before the National Signing Day in February. It was the relationships that Williams build with the Miami staff that eventually led to his decision to sign with the Hurricanes. Field is situated to be a big part of the Miami coaching staff for the foreseeable future.
Having someone with the experience Field who has overseen a major part of the recruiting process at Louisville, being connected to multiple high schools in South Florida and his ability to build relationships with the recruiting is going to be a priceless asset on the Hurricanes staff as long as Diaz is the head coach.
