The Miami football program has seven de-commits in the class of 2021. Four-star running back Thad Franklin is the Hurricanes only de-commit who re-committed to Miami for 2021. The majority of the other six players are not crystal balled to other schools.

When Manny Diaz took over as head coach of the Miami football program in December 2018 he instituted a new rule for Hurricane recruits than once they commit they are not allowed to take visits to other schools. That plan has worked relatively well with only seven de-commits in the 2021 recruiting class.

The re-commit of four-star running back Thad Franklin to the 2021 Miami recruiting class was a big re-addition. Franklin is currently the highest-ranked player committed to Miami for 2021. Franklin joins what will be a loaded running back unit for the Hurricanes in 2021. Three four-star running backs should return for Miami in 2021.

Junior Cam’Ron Harris is the likely starter in 2021 and will be backed up by redshirt junior Robert Burns who was a three-star signee in 2017 and incoming four-star freshmen Jaylan Knighton and Don Chaney Jr. Franklin could be the only running back Miami signs during the 2021 class. Other positions are more vital.

Five-star safety James Williams committed to Miami as a freshman in high school in March 2018. Williams stayed committed to Miami for just over 13 months until he de-committed in May 2019. The expectation is that Williams will commit to Georgia. All seven crystal balls on 247Sports.Com project the 6’5 safety to the Bulldogs.

Three-star cornerback

Tim Burns

who the Miami football staff is high on is the only defensive back currently committed to the Hurricanes for 2021. Miami signed four safeties in the 2020 class including four-stars

Avantae Williams

and

Jalen Harrell

. The Hurricanes should be ok if they do not sign a safety in 2021.

Four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson initially committed to Miami in February 2019. Brinson de-committed from Miami nine months later in November one day after the Hurricanes loss to FIU. Brinson is still in play for Miami with three other schools. Brinson is listed as warm to Miami, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M.

Four-star WR Jacolby George committed to the Miami football program last June and like Brinson de-committed from the Hurricanes the day after the loss to FIU. The only way to reverse the damage the loss to the Panthers followed by losses to Duke and Louisiana Tech to end the 2019 season is to win in 2020.

Miami is one of six schools that 247 projects George to be warm towards. Georgia Tech, Penn State, UCF, Pittsburgh and West Virginia are also high on George’s list. George is the 220th ranked player overall, the 39th ranked WR and 28th ranked player in Florida for 2021. Brinson is 138th, 24th and 19th for 2021.

Three-star defensive tackle Anthony Hundley has been a hard commit to LSU since November. Hundley was previously committed to Miami from May through August 2019 before announcing his de-commitment. Hundley has offers from nine schools in addition to Miami and LSU with five of those coming from Power Five schools.

Fred Eaford is a three-star WR who barely sits inside the top 600 players overall and the top 100 WRs and players in Florida. Eaford committed to Miami in June and de-committed less than two weeks after the Hurricanes hired Rhett Lashlee as the new offensive coordinator. Lashlee’s new offense should help Miami in recruiting.

Cortez McKenzie is a three-star undersized linebacker at 5’11 185 pounds from St. Petersburgh. McKenzie committed to Miami in June 2019 and de-committed from Miami November 25, two days after the loss to FIU. Linebacker is currently the strongest position for Miami in 2020 with commits from three players.

Chamon Matayer, Ja’Corey Hammett and Tyler Johnson are all local LBs from Miami who are committed to the Hurricanes for 2020. Miami loses redshirt senior Zach McCloud after the 2020 season. Sophomore Sam Brooks, redshirt freshman Avery Huff and freshmen Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg are the future at LB.
