Miami football commit Thad Franklin gets basketball offer from Penn State
Miami football commit Thad Franklin who is the highest-ranked player in the Hurricanes 2021 class tweeted Friday that he received a basketball offer from Penn State.
Four-star running back Thad Franklin who is the highest-ranked commit in the 2021 Miami football recruiting class tweeted on Friday that he has received an offer to play basketball at Penn State. Franklin also has an offer from the Nittany Lions football team.
Penn State is reportedly open to the idea of Franklin playing football and basketball. Franklin is the 215th ranked player, the 11th ranked running back and the 26th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2021. As a basketball player, Franklin averaged 8.9 points per game to lead Chaminade-Madonna to the Class 3A semifinals.
Franklin was dominant on the gridiron leading Chaminade-Madonna to the state championship in football. In the Florida State High School Championship game Franklin set the record with 333 yards rushing and five touchdowns on an astounding 47 carries. Chaminade-Madonna won the title with 35-20 victory over Florida High.
Franklin led the Lions to the victory over Tallahassee Florida High in the backyard in Tallahassee. The state championship rushing record was previously held by longtime NFL RB Travis Henry. At 6’0 225 pounds, Franklin’s physical style and stout build were able to take the pounding that 47 carries would bring.
Andrew Ivins of Inside the U on Friday stated he asked Frankin if the basketball offer from Penn State changed anything and Franklin responded with a simple NO! Inside the U parent site, 247Sports.Com also stated that Franklin plays for the“Nightrydas Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit as a freshman and sophomore.”
Just like in football, Franklin showed the ability to play at his best in the postseason. Franklin scored 19 points in Chaminade-Madonna’s state semifinal basketball loss to Saint Andrew’s of Boca Raton. Later that same week, Franklin was competing in the Under Armour All-American camp in Coconut Creek.

Franklin projects to give Miami a power RB in what should be a loaded backfield in 2021. Cam’Ron Harris will be entering his senior season and unless they redshirt, 2020 signees Don Chaney Jr. and Jaylan Knighton will be sophomores.
