In odds listed by CBS Sports on Tuesday, the Miami football team is listed 16th in the odds to win the National Championship.

In a listing of the top 50 teams with odds to win the College Football Playoff by CBS Sports on Tuesday, the Miami football program tied with USC for 15th with 60-1 odds to win the College Football Playoff. Clemson is the only ACC team ranked ahead of the Hurricanes and the favorite for the title at 11-5.

Entering its seventh year of existence, Miami has gotten close to the College Football Playoff only once. The Hurricanes began the 2017 season 10-0 before dealing with injuries in an upset loss at Pittsburgh in the final regular-season game and a blowout defeat to Clemson in the ACC Championship game ended their dream.

Miami enters the 2020 season with a lot of optimism due to do some big editions in the offseason. The Hurricanes added graduate transfers, quarterback D’Eriq King from Houston, defensive end Quincy Roche from Temple and kicker Jose Borregales from FIU. Miami also hired Rhett Lashlee as the new offensive coordinator.

Lashlee comes to Miami from SMU where he guided the Mustangs to seventh nationally in scoring offense in 2019 and ninth in total offense. Miami will run the up-tempo, spread offense that Lashlee ran at SMU and learned under Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn.  The spread should be a better fit for Miami’s talent.

The top 16 teams in odds by CBS utilizing William Hill are below. With odds in the top 20, it shows the respect nationally that the public has on the Hurricanes. Miami has not shown up on any of the major early preseason top 25 rankings despite the offseason changes.

It was surprising to not see what should be a good Wake Forest team among the top 50 odds to win the National Championship. The Demon Deacons will not likely win the Championship but they are in the top 50.
