The change of 2021 Miami football commit Chamon Meteyer from outside linebacker to wide receiver leaves the Hurricanes with two commits at the position. Meteyer is the first WR committed to Miami for 2021.

Chamon Meteyer a three-star commit to the 2021 Miami football recruiting class is moving from outside linebacker to wide receiver for his senior season according to the Miami Herald. Meteyer becomes the first WR committed to the Hurricanes for 2021 with two OLBs remaining in the class. Meteyer is not ranked at WR yet.

Meteyer is the 352nd ranked player overall, formerly the 28th ranked OLB, and the 58th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2021. Meteyer has been committed to Miami since February 3, 2019. Three-star OLBs Tyler Johnson and Ja’Corey Hammett are committed to the Miami football program for 2021.

The move by Meteyer from OLB to WR will affect his recruiting rankings across the board. The 247Sports composite was recently upgraded. Any new rankings for the Class of 2021 are likely on hold with sports and society on hold. Johnson and Hammett are ranked lower than Metayer.

Johnson is the 417th ranked player, 31st ranked OLB and 66th ranked player in the Class of 2021. Hammett is 542nd, 39th and 78th. Metayer spoke to the Herald on Friday about his position change, his recruitment, his the future and the involvement of Miami assistant coach Stephen Field in his decision to attend Miami.

"“Me going into college…it’s going to be finalized as a receiver. It’s the place where I feel most comfortable and I feel like I can most dominate for them…They have no problem with it. He’s (Field) always on top of me…You just need that top of person and Field’s been that person…He’s the main man.”"

Miami has offers out to 42 OLBs for the class of 2021. The Hurricanes’ latest offer was to three-star Sebastian Sager of Brooklyn who is ranked as the 1,210th ranked player and 85th OLB for 2021. Miami currently has 40 offers out to WRs for 2020. Four-stars Romello Brinson and Jacolby George remain warm on the Hurricanes.

Miami will potentially have a greater need at WR in 2021 than LB. Senior Mike Harley will depart for the NFL after the 2020 season and juniors Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope are eligible for the NFL Draft. The Hurricanes did sign four WRs in the Class of 2021. Miami has good depth at OLB for at least the next two seasons.

The Hurricanes will lose Zach McCloud who redshirted in 2019 and is moving inside to replace Shaq Quarterman this fall. Sophomore Sam Brooks or redshirt freshman Avery Huff is likely to replace Michael Pinkney at weakside or will LB in the Miami system that utilizes the hybrid LB/Safety position of striker.

Miami has incoming freshmen LBs Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg who project inside. Redshirt juniors Bradley Jennings Jr. and Waynmon Steed and redshirt sophomore Patrick Joyner remain on the Hurricanes roster at LB to add depth. Miami is continuing to recruit despite the dead period extended through May 31.
