How will the new Miami offense perform?

The biggest and most lasting change for the Miami football program in 2020 is the hiring of new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. The pace at which the Miami offense will operate in 2020 will be far greater than anything seen in the history of the Hurricanes football program. Miami will run far more plays than ever before.

The most plays by a Miami football team during a season is 936 is 2010. Miami ran 844 plays in 2019. SMU ran 1,037 plays with Lashlee as their offensive coordinator last season. The Miami offense has a lot of improving to do led by Lashlee. With the new system and King at QB Miami should be far more efficient offensively in 2020.

SMU was seventh nationally in the number of plays run in 2019, while Miami was 91st. With Dan Enos as the offensive coordinator in 2019, the Miami offense finished 98th in the country in total offense averaging 367.2 yards per game. SMU was ninth averaging 489.8 yards of offense per game in 2019.

SMU WR James Proche led the nation in 2019 with 111 receptions, was 13th with 1,225 receiving yards and fourth with 15 TD receptions. The Lashlee offense is very player-friendly and that likely would have been born out in the spring game. The new reality is we will have to wait until late summer to see the new Miami offense.
