D’Eriq King will be a dynamic presence at QB

The addition of D’Eriq King to the Miami football program provides the Hurricanes with the most talented QB they have had since Brad Kaaya left for the NFL following the 2016 season. The numbers King put up at Houston in his full season in 2018 dwarf what the Miami QBs put up as a whole in 2019.

In 2018 with Houston, King completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 2982 yards, 36 TDs and six interceptions. King added another 674 yards rushing and 14 TDs. With Jarren Williams and N’Kosi Perry as the primary Miami QBs in 2019, the Hurricanes were nowhere close as efficient as King was throwing the football in 2018.

Williams, Perry and Tate Martell completed just 58.5 percent of their passes for 3,239 yards, 27 TDs and 10 interceptions. King averaged 8.6 yards per attempt in 2018. The Miami QBs averaged 7.43 YPA in 2019. The 2019 Miami football spring game helped elevate Williams to eventually becoming the starting QB.

The 2020 spring game would have been more about seeing King run the Hurricanes offense, which receivers he developed a rapport with and seeing his abilities in a Miami football uniform for the first time. Fans will now have to wait until the season opener September 5 against Temple to see what King can do.
