Miami football continued dominant 2003 NFL Draft after Fiesta Bowl loss

William Joseph

DT 25th New York Giants

William Joseph was selected as the 25th pick of the first round in the 2003 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Joseph signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders in 2008 after missing the 2007 season with the Giants because of injury. After playing 55 games in N.Y. over his first four seasons, Joseph played two in Oakland.

The 2009 season was the last for Joseph in the NFL. Joseph finished his NFL career with 103 tackles, 21 TFLs and seven sacks. Joseph was a 2001 third-team All-American at Miami. Joseph finished his Miami career with 201 tackles and 19.5 sacks. As a freshman, junior and senior Joseph recorded a combined 41 TFLs.

The official Miami Athletic website Hurricane Sports does not mention how many TFLs Joseph had in his sophomore season in 2000. The best season Joseph had at Miami was in 2001. Joseph earned third-team All-America with 61 tackles, 19 TFLs and 10 sacks during the Hurricanes National Championship season.

Four other Miami Hurricanes were drafted by the NFL in 2003. Defensive end Andrew Williams went to the San Francisco 49ers in the third round, DE Jamal Green to Philadelphia in the fourth round, DE Matt Walters to the New York Jets in the fifth round and Dorsey to San Francisco in the seventh round.
