The decision by four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to postpone the announcement of where he will be committing to college could be to the advantage of the Miami football program.

The 2021 Miami football recruiting class is currently ranked ninth in the country but without a quarterback. The decision by four-star QB Garrett Nussmeier to postpone the announcement of where he will commit to play college football could work in the Hurricanes favor. Four Miami QBs on the roster are slated to return in 2021.

Nussmeier stated in a Tweet on Saturday afternoon that “Due to unforeseen circumstances I will not be commiting today. I have no futher date planned and will take it day by day. Thank you, stay safe!” No further statement was issued about the decision by Nussmeier or what the unforeseen circumstances were.

Nussmeier is the 103rd ranked player, seventh-ranked pro-style QB and 16th ranked player in Texas in the Class of 2021. The Miami football program will lose another Texas native, Houston graduate transfer QB E’riq King after the 2020 football season. The Hurricanes expect to return 2021 redshirt seniors, N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell.

Peyton Matocha will be redshirt sophomore in 2021 and 2020 four-star signee Tyler Van Dyke is expected to redshirt in 2020 and would be entering his redshirt freshman season about 16 months from now. LSU is projected to sign Nussmeier with all 17 prognosticators from 247Sports projecting him to the Tigers.

Nussmeier lives in Flower Mound, Texas which is north of Arlington. His father Doug is a former NFL QB and current QB coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has a good relationship with Nussmeier after having been the offensive coordinator at SMU during the last two seasons.

The decision by Nussmeier to delay his college decision is being reported by Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports partially due to wanting to take more college visits before making a decision according to Inside the U. Miami is reportedly one of the programs that Nussmeier wants to visit. Nussmeier discussed his relationship with Lashlee.

"“I like his offense a lot…He has relayed the message to me that I would be the perfect fit for it. It’s kind of crazy the numbers he put up last season at SMU, so I’m excited to see what he can do at Miami. I think he’s very personable. He’s not going to play around. He’s not going to BS you or lie to you.He tells you the truth and I like that about him”"

Andrew Ivins of Inside the U quoted Nussmeier above. On his own blog on SportsIllustrated.Com, Nussmeier stated he wants to visit Miami, Texas, Texas A&M and Arizona State after already visiting TCU, LSU and Baylor. Baylor, Miami, Texas and Texas A&M are the favorites to sign Nussmeier after LSU according to 247.
