Trevon Hill has the potential to be a versatile edge rusher in the NFL as a defensive end in a 4-3 defense or outside linebacker in the 3-4. Hill is projected to be drafted in the late fifth or early sixth round after one season with the Miami Hurricanes.

Trevon Hill played with the Miami Hurricanes in 2019 as a graduate transfer from Virginia Tech. Hill produced 27 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 12 games with one start. The best game Hill had in his short Miami tenure was four tackles, 1.5 TFLs and one sack in the Hurricanes 27-10 win over Florida State.

Hill was part of a dominant Miami Hurricanes defense in the victory over the Seminoles. The Hurricanes had 16 TFLs and nine sacks in the victory. Hill is a versatile player at 6’3 248 pounds who projects as a defensive end in a traditional 4-3 defense or as an outside linebacker/edge rusher in a 3-4.

One of the questions about Hill is his character concerns. Hill was dismissed from Virginia Tech involving an argument he had with members of the Hokies coaching staff during their shocking loss to Old Dominion in September 2018. Those concerns are likely to keep Hill from being drafted higher based on his talent.

There is no question that Hill has the athletic skills to play in the NFL. At this point, Hill likely seems like a player who is going to have to develop than someone that can come in right away and make an impact. Getting drafted into the right system will be critical for Hill for making the fringe of an NFL roster.

"“Virginia Tech grad transfer who is short on physical traits, play strength and explosiveness, but has enough athletic ability to create pocket traffic as a rusher at both schools. He’ll be pegged as a standup outside linebacker, but will need to improve his fundamentals and aggressiveness in order to handle edge-setting duties. While he lacks threatening edge speed, he might have a shot at finding a practice squad as a developmental edge rusher."

Lance Zierlein of NFL.Com provided the above analysis of the future for Hill. Hill could make a roster with an impressive preseason. Being able to contribute on special teams could also play a role in his future. Matt Miller of the Bleacher Report has Hill graded at 59. That would project Hill as an early sixth-round draft pick.

"“Trevon is another guy who is dynamic off the edge, a tough, high-motor player, and a really good guy to have in your locker room. He’s a guy that really has an understanding of making the guys around him feel like they’re important. Trevon is a guy that a bunch of teams would be excited to have."

Miami head coach Manny Diaz lauded the leadership that Hill showed in his one season with Miami. At the next level Hill is going to have continue to be a good team player to make a roster and stay there. NFL teams will not have a lot of patience for late-round draft picks with a history of behavioral issues.

Miller has players with a grade of 60-64 as fifth-round draft picks and 55-59 being selected in the sixth-round. If Hill lasts into the sixth round he has the opportunity to be a late-round steal with the right team. CBS Sports.Com has Hill being selected as the 234th pick overall to the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round.
