In an article published early Friday morning, Rivals.Com listed the Miami football program as the second favorite to land four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier behind LSU.

The Miami football program has yet to receive a commitment from a quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Hurricanes are close on several players. Four-star QB Garrett Nussmeier recently delayed his decision reportedly because he wants to take more visits. Miami is reportedly among the schools Nussmeier wants to see.

New Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee began a relationship with Nussmeier while he was at SMU. In a post published on Friday morning, Rivals.com recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman ranked the top six schools pursuing Nussmeier. Miami is listed second behind LSU. The 2020 season could determine his destination.

Nussmeier currently resided in Flower Mound, Texas outside of Dallas where his father Doug, a former NFL QB is currently the QB coach. Nussmeier is the 87th ranked player in the nation, the sixth-ranked pro-style QB and 14th ranked player in Texas in 2021. Miami signed four-star QB Tyler VanDyke in 2020.

The expectation for Nussmeier once the world gets back to a semblance of normal is that he will eventually take a visit to Miami. Spiegelman states that if campus visits had been allowed this spring Nussmeier could have visited Coral Gables. Nussmeier’s status has been rising as coaches have had more time to study video.

"2. MiamiNussmeier has never visited Miami, but that could have been a different story if he were able to make NCAA campus visits this spring. New Canes offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has developed a strong relationship with Nussmeier dating back to his recent stint at SMU, which is working in Miami’s favor.Miami is a school the Rivals100 passer wants to see before making a decision."

Nussmeier originally planned to announce what school he was committing to in mid-April. The other QB prospect who is still highly considering the Miami football program is four-star Pro-Style Aaron McLaughlin from Alpharetta, Georgia. McLaughlin is also strongly considering Louisville and North Carolina State.

The Wolfpack are considered the leader to sign McLaughlin. Fifty-six percent of the crystal balls for McLaughlin on 247Sports project the 12th ranked pro-style QB to sign with the Wolfpack. McLaughlin is the 201st ranked player overall and 18th in Georgia. Georgia has been exceptional producing QBs in the last 10 years.

Next. Miami can be helped by 4-star QB postponing decision. dark

Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence of Clemson, Jacob Eason from Georgia, Justin Fields of Ohio State and former Miami QB Jarren Williams all played their high school football in the Peach State. McLaughlin is the top-ranked QB coming out of Georgia in 2021. Nussmeier is the top-ranked Pro-Style QB in Texas in 2021.
