The Miami football program lost out on former Michigan wide receiver Tarik Black who announced Tuesday night he is transferring to Texas.

Former Michigan wide receiver Tarik Black announced via Instagram on Tuesday his new collegiate destination is Texas. The Miami football program was among the other major suitors for the Connecticut native with Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Mississippi State also being considered.

Black would have provided the Miami football program with another experienced WR they need entering the 2020 season. Senior WR Mike Harley is the only player at the position with extensive experience. Harley leads the Miami returning WRs in receptions and receiving yards in both 2019 and his career.

Black dealt with injuries throughout his three seasons at Michigan. After being a four-star signee in 2017, Black appeared in only nine games as a true freshman and sophomore in 2017 and ’18. Healthy in 2019, Black played in 12 games with five starts. Black had career highs with 25 receptions for 323 yards and one TD in 2019.

During his three seasons at Michigan, Black has 40 receptions for 507 yards and two touchdowns. At 6’3, 215 pounds, Black will provide the Longhorns with excellent size. Black was the 116th ranked player overall, the 15th ranked WR and the top-ranked player in Connecticut in 2017.

Harley signed with the Miami football program in 2017 as the 307th ranked player in the country, the 41st ranked WR and 40th ranked player in Florida. Black and Harley were both four-star signees coming out of high school. Harley has produced 68 receptions for 816 yards and three TDs with Miami from 2017-19.

Miami also returns juniors Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope and redshirt freshman Jeremiah Payton in 2020. The Hurricanes signed WRs Michael Redding III, Daz Worsham and Keyshawn Smith in 2020 and athlete Xavier Restrepo who is slated to become a slot receiver. The new Miami offense under Rhett Lashlee is WR friendly.
