NBC Sports Network is airing doubleheaders of classic Miami football games on Thursday and Friday. An Orange Bowl doubleheader will air Thursday night and an Orange/Fiesta Bowl doubleheader airs Friday night.

The 1980s and early 1990s Miami football program ruled college football. The Hurricanes won four National Championships between 1983 and 1991 and played for four others in their bowl games between ’83 and ’94. NBC Sports Network is airing four classic Miami bowl games with Thursday and Friday doubleheaders.

Do not consider this a tribute to the Miami Hurricanes like the 24-hour marathon that the ACC Network aired in April. NBCSN is showing two Miami National Championship game wins and two losses. On Thursday Night, NBCSN will air the Orange Bowl in 1995 between Miami and Nebraska and 1988 between Miami and Oklahoma.

The 1995 game will be telecast at 9:30 PM ET and the 1988 Orange Bowl which was Jimmy Johnson’s sole National Championship will air at 11:59 ET. Friday night’s games are the 1987 Fiesta Bowl Miami lost to Penn State with the air time at 9:30 ET and the 1984 Orange Bowl at 12:30 Saturday morning.

Its interesting NBCSN chose to air the Miami football wins at hours most people are beginning to go to sleep. In normal times, Miami is busy around midnight. People would be out, but either way, the times the Hurricanes title wins are airing are when most people are at the least getting ready to go to sleep.

"Here’s the schedule: 9:30 p.m. Thursday: the 1995 UM-Nebraska Orange Bowl, with Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth on the call and Bob Costas hosting. 11:59 p.m. Thursday: the 1988 Miami-Oklahoma Orange Bowl, with Don Criqui and Bob Trumpy on the call and fresh interviews inserted with former Hurricanes Steve Walsh and Bernard Clark. 9:30 p.m. Friday: the 1987 Miami-Penn State Fiesta Bowl, with Charlie Jones and Bob Griese on the call, and Jimmy Cefalo reporting. 12:30 a.m. Saturday: the 1984 Nebraska-UM Orange Bowl (UM’s first national title), with Criqui, John Brodie and Bill Macatee on the call. Liam McHugh will host the Thursday coverage, Mike Tirico the Friday coverage. Courtesy of Barry Jackson and the Miami Herald"

The 1995 Orange Bowl was the last game Dennis Erickson coached during a six-year tenure at Miami. The Hurricanes entered the game 10-1 against undefeated and number one Nebraska. Miami needed a loss by undefeated and number two Penn State in the Rose Bowl for a shot at the National Championship.
